Rosenthal Phi Lights/Design: Cairn Young
Freeze, Spindrift, City, Manhattan, Snow - Rosenthal has translated five avant-garde structures by the English designer Cairn Young into the
extraordinary PHI Lights collection. Complex geometric patterns cover the white porcelain bodies and transform the lamps into sculptural objects with a surprising 3D effect: triangles become frosty flowers, crystals form snowflakes, cubic bodies form a skyline. The translucent light breaks up the strict forms and plays with the surface of the mat translucent porcelain. This makes the fascinating structure of the objects visible.
The Rosenthal PHI Lights collection consists of pending lamps, high-quality, wireless table lamps with LED lighting and scented lights filled with fine wax, which conjure up unique lighting experiences in every ambiance.
"Ever since my father gave me a flipbook as a child, I have been fascinated by how you can bring movement into rigid objects," says British designer Cairn Young (*1963), who originally comes from California, but began his career as an architect and designer at Kingston University in London. For many years, Cairn Young has been one of the most outstanding representatives of the British design scene. With his special feeling for volume and form, he had been also involved in the development of the award-winning Rosenthal collection Á la carte.
As a partner for the creation of the hanging lamps, Rosenthal has brought the design label NUD Collection on board, which is making a name for itself internationally with its creative lighting concepts. With Bolt, the Swedish company supplies the matching lamp socket for the porcelain lampshade. With currently over 50 trendy colours and designs, the textile cables form a unit with the PHI lampshades, which can be adapted to any living style with over 700 combinations.
